Key elements to be developed for Chartering a Program:
- Benefits:
Define how will the program supports the business. Benefits provide the justification for executing or justifying the program and clarify the business case and overall value to the Business.
- Goals:
Describe what the program will do to support the business benefit. Goals are broad and long-term. Goals typically does not have a set of actions associated with them. A goal can be thought of as a vision for a program.
- Objectives:
Detail what is the program specifically trying to achieve and what the specific outcomes will be. Objectives are in depth, shorter term, and provide a series of actions to support what the program is trying to achieve (goals and benefits). Objectives are tangible and measurable SMART (specific, measurable, assignable, realistic, time-related).
- Deliverables:
Specifies what item(s) the program is expected to provide. Deliverables are the items to be delivered by the program team(s). A program objective should be achieved through the deliverable(s) of the program.
